Engage trained volunteers to systematically monitor focal species (mountain goats, bighorn sheep, pika) in the sub-alpine and alpine of Glacier NP. This program was created in 2008 to address the need for research on mountain goats, bighorn sheep and pikas - priority species due to their vulnerability to climate change impacts. Primary goals for mountain goat and bighorn sheep monitoring are to establish baseline data on mountain goat population density and distribution, and to monitor long-term mountain goat and bighorn sheep population status, to detect changes in distribution, long-term trends, and climate change impacts. Primary goal for pika monitoring is to establish baseline data on distribution and persistence.
