On November 18, 1964, the Report of the Task Force on the Preservation of Natural Beauty was was submitted to the President. Among the recommendations on "Urban Design" were the following: The National Park Service should be required to prepare a comprehensive inventory of the Nation's historic sites and areas, and it should be completed within five years. Federal loans and matching grants should be used by State and local governments for the historic preservation task.
