Mohren S. Mesocarnivore Inventory of Crater Lake National Park
Beginning in 2012 the wildlife team began using remote cameras in an effort to document the distribution of mesocarnivore species at Crater Lake National Park. The main goals of these inventories was to examine the distribution of Sierra Nevada red fox, Fisher, Pine Marten and Wolverine in the park. A secondary goal was to learn more about the distribution of a variety of other carnivore and ungulate species. This project contains information related to mesocarnivore projects implemented in Crater Lake National Park. To date there are 3 projects that are documented here. 2012 - 1 dozen cameras were placed along the rim and a red fox was documented. 2013 - 32 cameras, hair snares, and a push for incidental observations documented red fox in several locations along the rim of the caldera and confirmed the park had Sierra Nevada red fox. 2014 - 112 cameras were randomly placed throughout the park. A diversity of species were documented including a Pacific Fisher near Timber Crater. No red fox were observed. 2015 - 59 cameras were randomly placed throuhout the park. 12 species were documented including fisher and red fox. 2016 - This project was in partnership with USGS and we were able to sample 31 primary sampling units using 124 cameras and hair snares. No red fox, fisher, or wolverine were documented. Multiple sites had pine marten.
