Four Planarian Species (Turbellaria: Tricladida: Paludicola) from Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee and North Carolina, USA

Four freshwater planarians were found during the All Taxa Biodiversity Inventory in Great Smoky Mountains National Park from 7 April 2006 to 10 October 2007. They are identified as: Phagocata morgani morgani (Stevens and Boring 1906), Phagocata bursaperforata (Darlington 1959), Cura foremanii (Girard 1852), and Girardia (Dugesia) tigrina (Girard 1850). They are new reports for the park, extending their known range of occurrence. Site habitat type, elevation, pH values, and water temperature data are compared to site species counts to describe the distribution of these species in the park. Notes on field observations and habitats are presented to discuss the four species' behavior in natural settings.
