From Official Abstract: "Brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) in parts of Maine and New England have shown conditions that could indicate nutritional hyperparathyroidism. This condition happens most often after spawning, when brook trout have a high calcium demand. This study looks at two genes that are involved in calcium regulation to find out if the genes are regulated differently in various dissolved a2+ concentrations in water. The epithelial calcium channel gene (ECaC) and the calcium sensing receptor (CaSR) are both important for regulation of CA2+ and are considered in this project. The project was designed to look at the two genes and to find out if they are up-regulated when dissolved Ca2+ is low."
