Over 13-years, blackberry stem density at Craggy Flats decreased by 62%. Mountain angelica plant density increased threefold before declining, but are still twice as high at the end of the 13 years. Mowing has clearly reduced the pace of woody plant invasion into this grassy bald, and increased the abundance of mountain angelica. We suspect that mowing has also increased the abundance or vigor of other herbaceous plants in the bald, and that competition has caused decline in angelica.
