Changes in coral reef structure and composition at Dry Tortugas, FL (Dry Tortugas National Park) were compared over a 95-year period. Benthic maps dating from 1881 and 1976 were used for this comparison. The author discusses the major changes in coral species distribution and reef types. The importance of protecting living corals and their value to the ecosystem is discussed. Species checklist of corals is included.
