CRMO Wilderness Study Areas

This is a vector polygon shapfile showing the Wilderness Study Areas in and around Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve (CRMO). This dataset was obtained from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and shows areas that are being inventoried to assess their suitability as a designated wilderness area. The NPS CRMO office has been unable to find an original metadata document. Purpose: To show the location of Wilderness Study Areas in and around Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve. The intended use of all data in the park's GIS library is to support diverse park activities including planning, management, maintenance, research, and interpretation. Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve contains three major lava fields covering almost half a million acres and a quarter million acres of sagebrush steppe grasslands. This rugged landscape remains remote and largely undeveloped.
