SUMMARY: Over 80% of backcountry and frontcountry recreationists interviewed in GSMNP during 1982 were not disturbed by the use of ear tags, streamers, or collars on black bears for re- search purposes. Over 50% of visitors to the Cades Cove portion of the Park were not disturbed by collars on deer; acceptance in- creased when the color of the instrument blended with the animal's coat color or the research purpose of the collar was stipulated.
