Two new species of Phreatobrachypoda Cook, 1963 (Acari: Hydrachnidiae: Aturidae) from eastern North America

Adults and deutonymphs of Phreatobrachypoda appalachiana n. sp. and adult males of Phreatobrachypoda virginiensis n. sp. are described from hyporheic gravel deposits in streams in the Appalachian Mountains. These are the first two species of this genus known from east of the Rocky Mountains in North America and their discovery significantly expands the known distribution of Phreatobrachypoda species. The deutonymph of P. appalachiana is the first of this genus to be described.
