Bat inventory at selected locations in San Juan Island National Historic Park, 2006. This is to document the results of two, 2-day forays to inventory of bats on federal lands and to monitor the Crook House bat population at English Camp and to survey Jackles Lagoon at American Camp on San Juan Island, WA. On 7/25/2005, Anabat detectors and trapping nets were set up near Jakles Lagoon. Trapping producted 3 Yuma myotis and Anabat recording detected Eptesicus fuscus. On 7/26/2005, Anabat detectors and trapping nets were set up near Crook House and other suitable foraging areas of English Camp. Two species, M. yumanensis and E. fuscus were detected at Crook House. Capture efforts produced an 4 M. yumanensis and 1 M. evotis, which may be first record of this species confirmed on the federal lands of San Juan Island. On the evening of 8/7/06 exit counts of the Crook House and the nearby man-made bat box were conducted. In conjunction with the exit counts, various-sized mist nets and a harp trap were set up in the English Camp vicinity in an attempt to capture and document other bat species present. A total of 28 bats of three species were captured. On the following night (8/8/06), an attempt was made to determine bat activity areas at American Camp.
