This Guideline document is intended to be used as a reference for cultural resource managers, GIS Specialists and others at park, regional and program levels. The document explains the background and history of the standard creation, what the standard contains, how the standard is organized, as well as the data model, how to create cultural resource spatial data that complies with the standards and plans for implementing the standard throughout the National Park Service. Depending on individual familiarity with GIS and/or cultural resources portions of the Guidelines may be more helpful than others. Technical support for the cultural resource spatial data standards is available through the Cultural Resource GIS Facility in Washington, DC. This document represents a revised version of the standards and their implementation, based on the use of the original standards in a variety of park, regional and national programs.
