Executive Summary The Alaska Natural Resource Advisory Council (NRAC) developed this implementation plan to further the mission of the council and provide guidance for resource stewardship in Alaska National Park Service (NPS) units. The Alaska NRAC mission, articulated in its 2013 charter is to “… provide[s] leadership and direction for natural resource stewardship. This program provides the scientifically and technically sound resource information necessary to guide policy and management decisions aimed at preserving the natural resources, processes, and values,( including ancient and continuing human interaction), in these unparalleled national parks.” This implementation plan outlines the goals and actions for a collective natural resource stewardship program in the Alaska Region for 2013-2018. NRAC developed a guiding strategic plan in 2010 for resource stewardship in Alaska’s NPS units, The Alaska Natural Resource Program - A Strategy for the Future. The strategic plan includes ten focus areas, listed in Table 1. This implementation plan provides detailed goals and action items to help make progress within each focus area. The twenty-six goals are written as outcomes which describe the Natural Resource Program in 2018. This plan does not describe all operations or ongoing work, but specifies areas of special attention to progress resource management and resource conditions in the Alaska Region. This plan is the result of a multi-day meeting of the Alaska Natural Resource Advisory Council (NRAC) in fall 2012, follow-up with subject matter experts and park staff, and further review by NRAC during 2013. A prior NRAC Implementation Plan covered 2007-2012.
