This research studies the effects of acid deposition and nutrient cycling on changes in alkalinity and sulfur cycling in pond ecosystems since the Clean Air Act of 1970. Nine ponds around Cape Cod were visited and a water sample was taken from each along with a sediment core from six of the ponds. For most of the ponds the alkalinity has increased and the non-sea salt sulfate concentrations have decreased when compared to historical data. We found a strong relationship between the δ 34S values
