In July, 2013 we studied the bedrock reach of the Tuolumne River from the meadows downstream to Glen Aulin. Our principal finding pertaining to the purpose of the study was a statistically significant difference in joint/fracture densities in the Kcp unit between outcrops on the river bank and proximal hillslopes. This difference may result from the river providing a resevoir of liquid water, facilitating segregation ice growth. This finding motivates the work now underway on the Modelumne.
