Geodatabase holding a digitized version of a 1981 vegetation map of Deep Lake Strand Area of Big Cypress National Preserve. Lance H. Gunderson and Lloyd L. Loope used 1978 color contact prints (1:7800) to delineate features to create a vegetation map that was field checked in 1981 and published at 1:17000 along with a report (Report T-666 An Inventory of the Plant Communities within the Deep Lake Strand Area, BICY) in 1982. From 2010-2014 Kevin Whelan and Judd Patterson assisted part time high school interns on a project to digitize several historic vegetation maps. Some of the historic maps needed to be scanned and georeferenced, and some were obtained (already georeferenced) from Troy Mullins (GIS Specialist, EVER). Each map was digitized at 1:1500 scale by a volunteer intern, with the resulting polygon file stored in a personal geodatabase. Topology checks were completed and a second intern was assigned to redraw 10% of the polygons as a consistency check.
