BAND resource staff requested assistance from the Natural Resource Stewardship and Science (NRSS) directorate. In particular, park staff asked the Geologic Resources Division (GRD) for a professional assessment of risks in order to assist park management in prioritizing recovery efforts and to inform area access closures and infrastructure repairs. BAND staff asked for a risk assessment and evaluation of geologic hazards and for recommendations as to whether the trail should be abandoned, rerouted, or reconstructed in place.
