Poindexter DB and Nelson JB. 2011. A New Hedge-nettle (Stachys: Lamiaceae) from the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Journal of the Botanical Research Institute of Texas. 5(2):405-414

ABSTRACT: A new hedge-nettle species (Stachys: Lamiaceae) is described from the Southern Section of the Blue Ridge Physiographic Province of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Stachys appalachiana is a narrow endemic known from northwest North Carolina and southwest Virginia. A key for separating morphologically and geographically related taxa is provided, as well as photographs demonstrating the diagnostic characteristics of this new taxon.
