ABSTRACT: A new hedge-nettle species (Stachys: Lamiaceae) is described from the Southern Section of the Blue Ridge Physiographic Province of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Stachys appalachiana is a narrow endemic known from northwest North Carolina and southwest Virginia. A key for separating morphologically and geographically related taxa is provided, as well as photographs demonstrating the diagnostic characteristics of this new taxon.
