Research Report Death Valley ventifacts

Laity JE. Research Report Death Valley ventifacts. Research Permit and Reporting System

Wind erosion was a pervasive process in the western Great Basin during glacial and immediate post-glacial times and abraded rocks (ventifacts) are widespread. The complex topography of the western United Sttes results in surface winds that represent both synoptic, regional, and local flow fields. This study examines palaeowind flow by measuring erosional features on ventifacts, which provide a time-integrated measure of palaeowinds.
