Using pop-up satellite archival tags for understanding Pacific halibut movement in and around Glacier Bay National Park

Nielsen J and Seitz A. Using pop-up satellite archival tags for understanding Pacific halibut movement in and around Glacier Bay National Park. Research Permit and Reporting System

The goal of this research project is determine whether halibut undertake winter spawning migrations outside of Glacier Bay National Park, and if so, whether they return to Glacier Bay the following summer. Twenty five pop-up satellite archival tags (PSATs) were attached to Pacific halibut inside Glacier Bay to determine seasonal migration characteristics relative to park boundaries. Preliminary data indicate a strong tendency for year-round residency and site fidelity within Glacier Bay.
