Survey for rare plants including a population of obsure phacelia (Phacelia inconspicua) in Craters of the Moon NM&P Due to limited knowledge of rare plant species on Bureau of Land Management Upper Snake Field Office lands in the Big Lost River Drainage, a survey was conducted on 6-9 June and 12-16 July 2010 to obtain preliminary data on presence of the following species: Astragalus amnis-amiss (Custer milkvetch), Astragalus aquilonius (Lemhi milkvetch), Astragalus leptaleus (park milkvetch), Camissonia pterosperma (wingfruit suncup), Epilobium palustre (marsh willowherb), Ipomopsis polycladon (spreading ipomopsis), Oxytropis besseyi var. salmonensis (Challis crazyweed), Pediocactus simpsonii (Simpson’s hedgehog cactus), Phacelia inconspicua (obscure phacelia), Pyrrocoma insecticruris (bugleg goldenweed), and Silene scaposa var. lobata (Lost River catchfly). The study area is roughly bounded by Mackay on the north, Challis National Forest on the east and west, and Craters of the Moon National Monument on the south.
