The purpose of this paper is to attempt to reconstruct the role of non-mammalian fauna in the aboriginal (pre-white contact, circa 1750) life of the Ozette by using information in the historic and ethnographic literature. I will attempt to elucidate which species were utilized, how they were exploited and utilized, and how important the species was in the aboriginal economy. The focus of this paper will be on inferences that can be tested archaeologically and for this reason the discussion of techniques of "supernatural" production and rituals associated with particular species will be minimal.
