This report is an analysis of the anticipated socioeconomic effects associated with various future planning proposals for Glacier NP under their General Management Plan (GMP). The analysis presented in this report was completed by Bioeconomics, Inc. of Missoula, under contract with the national Park Service. The work undertaken in association with this contract was presented to NPS managers in two phases. The Phase I report submitted to the NPS, contained a general overview of the issues and planning alternatives identified by the NPS along with a generally qualitative discussion of expected socioeconomic impacts associated with the alternatives. Two of the eight issues identified by the NPS were singled out for more in-depth analysis in this Phase 1 report: Issue #1, Increased visitor use on the Going-to-the-Sun Road and Issue #3, Heritage and lodging. This Phase II report examines all 8 issues identified by the NPS and their associated alternatives and develops and presents descriptions and estimates of socioeconomic impacts associated with them where available data allows.
