Evaluate Changes in Spruce- Fir Forests to Identify Impacts of Exotic Insect and Climate Change

Permanent plots established in spruce-fir stands in the 1990's were re-surveyed to determine levels of fraser fir regeneration. Data was analyzed to determine whether changes in stand composition had occurred over the past 20 years. Fir basal area and regeneration was was analyzed with respect to environmental variables to determine their relative importance. Fir photosynthetic rate, foliar pigments, and carbohydrate storage was measured to identify stress-tolerant individuals.
