Every day zooplankton in lakes migrate up and down in the water column. The current explanation of zooplankton DVM is largely focused on two biotic drivers: food availability and visual predation. However, recent experiments in high ultraviolet radiation (UV) transparency, fishless lakes suggest that UV radiation and temperature are also important. Using a combination of observational data and field experiments we assessed the role of UV in driving these migrations.
