This report constitutes a basic overview of the data provided by the backcountry permit compliance study conducted in Olympic National Park during the summer of 1981. The major purpose of the study was to examine various aspects of the accuracy, usefulness, and public acceptance of the current backcountry permit system. The report is largely a collection of descriptive, self-explanatory tables which serve to delineate the major findings of the study, and to acquaint park managers and rangers with the types of information collected in the study. The data described within will also serve as the basis for additional more specific analysis and conclusions concerning backcountry permit compliance and other issues relevant to the permit system.
