Small Mammal Community Associations and Habitat Use at Pea Ridge National Military Park, Benton County, Arkansas

Reddin CJ. Small Mammal Community Associations and Habitat Use at Pea Ridge National Military Park, Benton County, Arkansas. Research Permit and Reporting System

Juniperus virginiana (eastern redcedar) has been altering grassland ecosystems at Pea Ridge National Military Park (PERI). To see if eastern redcedar forest provides habitat for a unique small mammal community, I surveyed small mammals throughout the park. The small mammal species composition in eastern redcedar forest was comparable to native forests but lower than local grasslands. Removing eastern redcedar to restore native habitat is unlikely to diminish the small mammal community at PERI.
