The 1951 Olympic field survey, carried out in part to relieve public criticism and pressure against Service wildlife policies in Olympic National Park, was summarized in a rather extensive report dated April, 11, 1951. This earlier report makes it unnecessary to review here the entire background of the Olympic wildlife problem. Last year's investigation and public relations work, though limited, helped materially to reduce the violent criticism by local residents of the Peninsula of this Service's wildlife policies. Further gains were made along the same lines in 1952. However the situation continues to be one of suspense, which probably can be relieved only by the long continues fact finding program outlined for the proposed biologist position, and continued public relations work by Superintendent Overly, the biologist, and other park staff members.
