Distance from Coast - Explanatory Variable Map for Soundscape Model Training - Alaska

NPS Natural Sounds and Night Skies and Inventory and Monitoring Divisions. 2014. Distance from Coast - Explanatory Variable Map for Soundscape Model Training - Alaska

This dataset is a potential explanatory metric (variable) for soundscape modeling efforts. These explanatory metrics attempt to measure the complex biological, geophysical and anthropogenic sources and interactions which constitute a soundscape (Mennitt D., K. Fristrup, and K. Sherrill. 2014, Pijanowski et al. 2011) across national parks and their surrounding landscapes. More specifically, the derived metrics from the Soundscape Modeling Geospatial Database (SMGB) have been used as training data in random forest (Breiman, L. 2001) soundscape models.
