Approximately 260 scientists, resource managers and regulators attended the Seagrass and Submerged Habitat Restoration Workshop, jointly convened by the four Florida National Estuary Programs and held at Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, FL on March 11-13, 2003. Presentations from more than 70 scientists, engineers and resource managers experienced in the restoration of estuarine and coastal seagrass, hard bottom and tidal creek habitats, impacts from dredging and prop scars, and artificial reefs were included in the three-day workshop. The agenda and a list of participants are included with this summary, and the enclosed 2-CD set includes electronic presentations from the workshop. Workshop objectives were to: 1). exchange information, data and experiences of successes and failures in the restoration of submerged aquatic habitats; and 2). identify and prioritize issues and critical gaps in our understanding of the science and implementation of submerged aquatic habitat restoration techniques. Broad categories of issues are Implementation, Regulatory Issues, and Research/Data needs for both SEAGRASS RESTORATION and RESTORATION OF OTHER SUBMERGED HABITATS.
