This article deals with the following aspects of coral growth: (1) the potential growth of 5 coral species in situ; (2) the actual growth of these species in situ; (3) the growth of corals at different depths; (4) the addition of skeletal mass by the most important epigrowing organisms; (5) the subtraction of skeletal mass by the most important burrowing organisms. In addition, some characteristics of the growth of coral skeletons and their bearing on the life history of coral colonies are discussed.
