1.Oxygen uptakes of adults and of early and late larvae of the dermestid beetle, Dermestes maculatus, acclimated to 23°C were measured at different temperatures. 2.Oxygen consumption at temperatures between 5 and 40°C increased with overall Q10's of 1.79, 1.81 and 1.85 for adults and early and late larvae, respectively. 3.Rates of oxygen uptake were relatively high; predicted optimum rates of energy utilization between 20 and 25°C ranged from 1.48 to 2.39 cm3O2/g per hr (= 0.17–0.28 kcal/g per day).
