Actively growing, fringing coral reefs are developed along the western coast of Barbados. The form of these reefs, from the shore to depths of about 30 meters, is described. Montastrea annularis is the dominant shallow water species, while Madracis asperula is dominant beyond depths of 10 meters. The development of the reefs in terms of coral growth is described.
