A nesting colony of hawksbill turtles Eretmochelys imbricata on Seil Ada Kebir Island, in the Suakin Archipelago (Sudan), was studied in March 1978. Sizes of gravid females and their fecundity were compared with other nesting populations. The density of nesting here is higher than that reported at some of the better known hawksbill breeding beaches. Exploitation and conservation of this species in the Red Sea are discussed.
