Immature Nematodes of the Genus Contracaecum Railliet and Henry, 1912, from Shrimps

Since 1955, scientists of the Florida State Board of Conservation Marine Laboratory have been carrying out comprehensive biological studies on penaeid shrimps, the most valuable seafood product of the state and the nation. Results of much of this work have been published (see Eldred et al., 1961). Woodburn et al. (1957) reported observing nematodes in Penaeus duorarum Burkenroad from the Tortugas shrimp grounds and in a white shrimp [P. setiferus (L.)] from Apalachicola Bay. Hutton et al. (1959) and Kruse (1959) described what appears to be the same species as Contracaecum sp. from Penaeus aztecus Ives, P. duorarum, and P. setiferus. Material for these studies was obtained from Florida coastal waters.
