Florida panther distribution annual performance report 1986-1987

Belden RC. 1987. Florida panther distribution annual performance report 1986-1987. Florida

The Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission initiated a Florida panther study in October 1976 by establishing a Florida Panther Record Clearinghouse to investigate and conduct field searches in response to sighting reports of panthers. At least one panther population was documented in the Big Cypress/Everglades physiographic region. The number of panther reports generated appears to be more a function of the number of people in an area and their activity patterns rather than related to panther density or activity. The primary usefulness of sighting reports is for assigning priorities to areas for field searches.
