Some implications of turtles nesting on beaches with differing temperature regimes in the southern Great Barrier Reef are discussed in relation to temperature dependent sex determination. The mainland beaches have the greatest potential for female production. Within a coral cay, the highest female sex ratio can be expected from the northerly-aspect beach. The overall female production will be modified by a differential mortality occurring between mainland and coral cay beaches for Caretta caretta.
