During a two year zooplankton sampling program at Barbados, West Indies, several individuals of a new species of the thecosomatous pteropod genus Styliola were collected. The species was collected at intermittent intervals and had an average abundance of 2.2 individuals per 1000m^3 of water, compared to 2949.3 for Spiratella inflata, the most abundant thecosome, and 18.5 for Styliola subula.
