Growth Rate of Four Species of Euthecosomatous Pteropods Occurring off Barbados, West Indies

Wells FE. 1976. Growth Rate of Four Species of Euthecosomatous Pteropods Occurring off Barbados, West Indies. The Nautilus. 90(3):114-116

Growth rates of the four most common species of euthecosomatous pteropods occurring off Barbados were measured using the probability paper method. Average growth rates were: Limacina trochiformis 0.10 mm/month, L. inflata 0.12 mm/month, L. bulimoides 0.15 mm/month, and Creseis virgula conica 0.30 mm/month. The species reach metamorphosis in 1.5 to 3 months and sexual maturity in 7 to 9.5 months. The maximum life spans of all four species are estimated to be about one year.
