GAAR Kobuk River Basin Geology

2000. GAAR Kobuk River Basin Geology

As part of an interagency agreement between the National Park Service (NPS) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), basin characteristics are being determined for a number of watersheds in National Parks of Alaska. The purpose of this data set is to provide the NPS informationabout the geology of the Kobuk River Basin to do basic spatialanalysis. A GIS coverage of the geology of the Kobuk River Basin can be used to determine the type and amount of rock for a given watershed, to help understand the chemistry of water which drain a certain type of rock, or in explaining runoff characteristics for a specific stream. More knowledge and understanding of the Kobuk River Basin will help the NPS in making sound management decisions.
