Brown Mountain and Jordan Pond Gatehouses: Character-defining features report

From the executive summary: "Acadia National Park (ACAD) has proposed the rehabilitation of the Brown Mountain and Jordan Pond Gatehouses (PMIS 187711). These structures are listed on the National Register of Historic Places as contributing the national significance of Acadia National Park. The buildings are currently threatened by deferred maintenance. The park intended the first phase of work to be the preparation of Historic Structure Reports (HSRs) and Preservation Plans for the two gatehouses. The HSRs would provide baseline documentation necessary to guide the rehabilitation of the two gatehouses and related structures (PMIS 187711). However, due to restricted funding, full HSRs were not funded in the current fiscal year. An interim step in assuring the preservation of these structures is the identification of those features that give them their unique character (i.e., character-defining features or CDFs).The National Park Service’s regional Historic Architecture, Conservation and Engineering Center (HACE) offered ACAD technical assistance to identify the exterior and interior character-defining features of the Brown Mountain and Jordan Pond Gatehouses..."
