LACL Backcountry Campsites

This feature class depicts 202 known campsite locations found in the backcountry of Lake Clark National Park and Preserve. In general campsites are defined as overnight use areas of disturbed vegetation, surface litter, or soils caused by human use. Fire pits are also considered to represent a campsite, even though no other impact may be seen, however, a fire site may not be present at all campsites. In areas with multiple sites there may not always be undisturbed areas separating sites and an arbitrary decision may be necessary to define separate sites. Not incorporated into this dataset as of June 2010, are sketch maps and photos taken thru the years. This dataset requires additional work including verifying 24 campsites with no locations.
