The taxonomy of Chrysothrix Mont. is reviewed for eastern and central North America with special emphasis on the Ozark Ecoregion. Six taxa are recognized; three of these occur in the Ozarks. The new combination Chrysothrix onokoensis (Wolle) R.C. Harris & Ladd is made and the new species Chrysothrix insulizans R.C. Harris & Ladd is described. Eastern North American material previously determined as Chrysothrix candelaris is referred to C. xanthina. A key, descriptions, illustrations and distribution maps are provided.
