Bonnie Clare Road is located in Inyo County, California in the northeast corner of Death Valley National Park. The park road traverses Grapevine Canyon, beginning at Grapevine Junction and extending east/northeast for 7.5 miles to the park boundary. The period of signifiance is identified as 1947 to 1951. During that time, the road was paved and reconstructed by the National Park Service under the auspices of early Mission 66 development to increase visitor access, capacity and safety along the road corridor. Today, Bonnie Clare Road functions much as it did historically, providing visitors with access to Scotty's Castle from Death Valley National Park and from locations to the east. The road has a long history of use as a transportation corridor, representing the prehistoric period, homesteaders, miners, ranchers, and visitors to the national park.
