Monitoring the Chisana and Mentasta Caribou Herds in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park
Cutting K and Putera J. Monitoring the Chisana and Mentasta Caribou Herds in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. 2007. National Park Service
Caribou occur in all 3 management units within the NPS Central Alaska Network, and are 1 of the 6 large mammal species in interior Alaska that are of great importance to these ecosystems and to people for both consumptive and non-consumptive uses. The objectives for the Chisana and Mentasta caribou herds monitoring program are to determine changes in abundance, distribution, and demographics, with a focus on estimating calf survival and recruitment.
