The purpose of this study is to identify and document the distributions of benthic diatoms (Bacillariophyta) in salt marshes and tidal flats of Tomales Bay. To accomplish this, surficial sediment was collected for diatom and grain-size analyses along four leveled transects from the Lagunitas delta, a complex area of high and low marshes, sloughs and tidal flats at the head of Tomales Bay (figs. 1,2). This report provides the first ever documentation of 141 diatom species and varieties from 30 genera at Lagunitas delta (Tables 1-24, 26, 27).
