This project will provide crucial information to the scientific understanding of the evolution of park coastal geomorphology, and it will contribute to the scientific foundation for resource-management decision-making.The Post-Sandy geomorphological map will represent the condition of the landform surface as a product of alterations caused by Superstorm Sandy. It will be the basis for comparisons of the pre-Sandy situation and for analyses of rates and conditions of recovery. Further, all of the changes will be quantified in a variety of ways. Simple 1D shoreline and other features that are subject to displacement will be analyzed and portrayed in a Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) context to depict the spatial dimensions of the changes, following the protocol described in Psuty, et al. (2010). Other measures of 2D and 3D variations will be applied and generated as tabular, graphical, and cartographical presentations.
