The Cumberland Piedmont Network Inventory and Monitoring Program began long-term water quality monitoring at Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in fiscal year 2007 (FY07). Water quality is measured monthly for two years at ten sites, ranging from headwater streams draining mountain wilderness, a karst spring, and streams as they enter the urban fringe of the park. Two years of monthly sampling is followed by five years of inactivity is based on the United States Geologic Survey national water quality program.
