Two decades of change in a hardwood forest

Two decades of change in a hardwood forest. Research Permit and Reporting System

We repeated a study on the species composition of the tree seedling community of a forested slope along the Blue Ridge Parkway that had been conducted in 1994. In 994, mature flowering dogwood trees were also inventoried, but over this 20-year period, nearly all flowering dogwood trees at the study site died and fell. The biggest change in the seedling community was a decline in the contribution of white ash seedlings and an increase in the contribution of hickory seedlings.
