Oyster Reef Restoration Project with K-12 students

McGuire SL. 2014. Oyster Reef Restoration Project with K-12 students. Virginia Institute for Marine Sciences

This was an oyster planting project between the local school districts and the Virginia Institute for Marine Sciences. Students from schools in the City of Newport News and Richmond participate in the Oyster Reef Keepers Oyster Gardening program. Students raise young of the year oysters throughout the school year in floats near their school, and when the oysters reach mature size are planted on established oyster reefs. The oyster reef at Felgates Creek in the Colonial Historical Park will be used for this activity.
